No cost to parents. Our help is free, and awarded services are paid by the DOE.
When a New York City public school does not deliver the services in a child's IEP, the family can ask for compensatory services: extra hours of tutoring or therapy to make up for what was missed. Many families win those hours and then never find a provider to deliver them.
What are compensatory services?
What they are, who qualifies, and what they usually cover.
How do families get them?
Impartial hearings, settlements and authorizations, step by step.
Does my child qualify?
The situations that most often lead to an award.
Is it worth it?
Why missed time matters and what it costs you.
What can happen?
Settlements, orders, partial awards and appeals.
Already have an award?
How to turn an order or authorization into real sessions.
How we help
- Tell us your situation. The short form below takes two minutes.
- We call you back. We find out what your child needs and whether hours have already been awarded.
- We connect you. We refer you to a tutoring provider or, if you have not been awarded anything yet, to people who help families through that process.
We are an independent information and referral service. We are not the NYC Department of Education and we are not a law firm.
